The Development of Alpha 32-inch Carbon Fiber Bicycle Rim
Introduction
The 32-inch bicycle wheel seems to have become the new favorite in the cycling industry, with an increasing number of mountain bike components (including tires and frames) designed to fit 32-inch rims. This larger wheel size and its riding experience are currently sparking lively discussions.
The Alpha 32" rim incorporates the same or upgraded technologies as the Alpha 36S. These include Advanced Single-Point (ASP) Reinforcement at the spoke holes and valve stem hole, which enhances the rim's strength while reducing weight.T1000 carbon fiber materials are added to compose Alpha 32" rim, providing high strength and high modulus to ensure excellent durability. Additionally, this product features the third-generation layering technology.
1. Advanced Single-Point (ASP) Reinforcement at Spoke Holes and Valve Stem Hole, Resulting in Rims that are Stronger and Lighter
We specially designed the shape of the spoke hole position and developed advanced single-point reinforcement technology specifically for Alpha 32" rim, which results in rims that are stronger and lighter. We've optimized spoke hole angles at 5° axial and 5° radial orientations. These precision-engineered angles effectively minimize spoke stress and maximize power transfer efficiency.
2. Material Upgrade: Toray T1000 Aerospace Grade Carbon Fiber
The Alpha 32" pioneers the use of Toray T1000 aerospace-grade carbon fiber as its main structural material, strategically reinforced with Toray T1000 for localized optimization. Alpha 32" achieves unprecedented weight savings: 32-hole one at 350g —— this a huge upgrade over Unicorn 32" rim which is 480g..
3. 3rd-Generation Layer-up Structure
As illustrated, all Supreme Edition MTB carbon rims — including the Alpha 32" rim — employ our third-generation carbon fiber layer-up structure. The outermost carbon layer on the rim bed closely integrates with the main body structure, wrapping around the outside of the rim to relocate seam joints away from the rim lip which is most susceptible by impact. This structure significantly improves the impact resistance of the rim during the technology impact test, so that it is not easily damaged by high impact in reality riding.
4. Highly Strict Technical Test Methods — 105J for (Pointed Hammer, 25psi)
For all of the Supreme Edition MTB rims, we implement Specialized Laboratory testing standards exceeding UCI requirements: V-shaped impact hammer testing at 25psi tire pressure. This methodology better simulates actual mountain riding conditions, providing more realistic strength evaluations. While 84J impact resistance is considered exceptional under these conditions, our Supreme Cross Country carbon rims (including Omega 36U and Alpha 32" achieve extraordinary 100-105J results. Notably, Omega 36U has maintained zero customer complaints since its July 2024 release, with Alpha 32" demonstrating equivalent testing performance. IMPACT TEST VIDEO
Beyond these core innovations above, Alpha 32" carbon rim incorporates numerous advanced manufacturing techniques including precision carbon fiber cutting, optimized mold materials and refined production processes - collectively establishing Alpha 32" carbon rim as the ultimate MTB Cross Country competition-grade product.
This rim could be used for Cross Country (XCO, XCM, XCC), Marathon, Endurance Cross Country, Trail riding. The tire size for this model of rim is recommended at 2.0" ~ 2.75". The tire pressure is recommended at 18 ~ 32 psi.
